GB Spooky Castle is a small clone prototype of the famous Castlevania that I made as part of my devlog series GB Studio Clone Challenge. In three rooms of an old castle a little hero fights his way against ghosts, pumpkins and a nasty bat.

Collect treasures and new weapons by destroying the candles on the walls.

To play through the prototype you need just 2 minutes. It's more for testing the possibilities of Chris Maltby's GB Studio 2 and maybe even to inspire interested people to try a project with the mechanics of Castlevania using the engine themselves.

I played the project today and I have to say that while it's quite simple for the moment, it's a great proof of concept you got there. I would be curious to see what a full game with these simplified mechanics would look like. Excellent job, keep up the good work! Here's my walktrough if anyone wants to see what's the full experience is like.

This is something in the spirit of "Castlevania" (NES) :-) (knocking objects out of candelabra). In fact, it is a bad practice to use sliding for a player character (given that he is not on the ice). Overall it's pretty funny and I like this graphics :-)

fun game.

cool game, but I think that the message about the picked up weapon, which is already in the slot, should be removed

Pretty fun couple of minutes. I will say that there are a few collision issues, with for instance in the third room, where the eye enemy fires projectiles, the projectiles don't hit? Also I don't think this is a bug, but falling doesn't start over or take damage from the player? Outside of that, pretty impressive!

Thank you. I'm glad the prototype gave you a few fun minutes. :D

It's indeed a bug that you don't get damage in the third room. :( And as for the second room, if you fall down you don't have to start all over again, as I made this prototype primarily to try out the different mechanics. Also, you actually "die". That means the game counts the fall as a death and deducts points for it at the end. I should make that clearer in the next project. (Unfortunately I can't change the project file anymore, because in the meantime GB Studio 3 came out and the file is a GBS2 file, which got broken during the migration to the newer version.)

Ohhh I see , that makes sense then! Again props to you, pretty cool demo and I'll be looking forward to any future releases.

I'm glad you like my work. If you want to know a bit more about how I made the prototype, feel free to check out my YouTube channel.

controls feel too floaty/unresponsive.

You're right about that. It is the default setting of GB Studio. I will try to change it in the next prototype.
